Diet Oh Diet!

  • Makan buah dulu sebelum makan nasi, not the other way round. Jangan kata makan buah selepas makan nasi, konon-konon mencuci mulut. Nak ikut Nabi ke, nak ikut orang putih? Hehe.

Surah at-Taubah ayat 14

Surah Yunus ayat 57

Surah an-Nahl ayat 69

Surah al-Isra' ayat 82

Surah Asy-Syua'ara' ayat 80

Saya sendiri pun ingin mencari air zamzam. Sedang al-Allamah Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah mencuba mengubat dirinya dengan air zamzam yang dibacakan al-Fatihah berulang kali. Namun harus diingat minum air zamzam harus diikut adabnya ya.

Mana bateri saiz A dan B saya??

Why does it 'Rain cats and dogs'? Why not 'Mice and Ant'?

The phrase raining cats and dogs brings us back to the Norse legends, which contended that animals had specific magical powers. In this case, cats were reputed to have the ability to conjure up storms and dogs were symbolic of wind. To Scandinavians, then, raining cats and dogs meant a violent storm with wind and rain, pretty much what it means to us today.

Holt argues that the phrase probably stems from 17th century England, when Jonathan Swift, in Polite Conversation, described the city's gutters as full of debris-including cats and dogs!

Magnificient Work of God

A friend of mine send me these photos of a river-right under a river! How could this happened? This shows that God is Almighty where everything is made possible with His power and will. As you can see, the pictures shows a few people diving in the river to discover another river flowing at the bottom of it. You can also see from one of the pictures that one of the divers 'swims' in the 'river' that they found.

Battle of The Screws

Salam. Have you ever wondered "What's up with these Phillips screws and straight-bladed screws? Why don't we use the same type of screw?" As most of us knew, the straight-bladed screws and screwdrivers were long created before the creation of Phillips screws and screwdrivers. Therefore why should those people in the past invented the Phillips if we can use the straight-bladed ones as it serves the same purpose - equally effective in tightening hardware components?

Some people believed a theory that the manufacturer of the Phillips screws and screwdrivers were playing a mean character in overtaking the old hardware business (straight-bladed screws manufacturers) by introducing a new design (sense of fashion in screws?) to the hardware.

Well, the theory of overtaking business maybe applicable in this case, however it was not the main reason why the Phillips were introduced to us. It is because of the safety feature that it has to offer. In the past, there were complaints that the straight-bladed screws sometime tend to cause damage to the hardware, furniture and even injured the workers. How did these happen? As we all knew, the straight-bladed screws have slots at the center which we inserted the screwdrivers into to tighten the screw. Occasionally, the screwdrivers tend to slip and cause these damages and therefore, the Phillips screws were introduced to let the screwdrivers fit tightly and avoid the chances of being slipping onto hardwares, furnitures and hands.

All in all, we got to use both type of screws until nowadays and it is up to us to choose any type that we prefer. The main concern is we have to be careful. (And the Phillips really are fancy though ;))

Why is the "I" in the word I capitalized?

Salam.
As we all know, in English the first person singular is the word I. Why is the "I" in that word being capitalized? Why not the same thing happen to the letter "M" in the word me or "Y" in the word you? We may say that this is a symbol of egocentrism but this is not really the original reason why the letter "I" is being capitalized.

In Middle English, the original first person singular was expressed with the word ich which eventually shortened to i in lowercase. However, the printers in those days found it difficult to print the word i without accidentally joining it to the words that preceded or followed it. Therefore, they managed to capitalized the letter "I" to make it stand as an isolated word and that is why we used capitalized "I" in the word I nowadays.
